MY TEN FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2020
(IN NO PARTICULAR HIERARCHY)
/// Pet Shimmers - Trash Earthers
When I discovered that Oliver Wilde was in a new band, I was pleasantly surprised to hear them create a wild new version of his already stellar sound.
/// Pet Shimmers - Face Down In Meta
This band takes an odd production approach that feels like they're giving all sounds equal say and for some reason, I really like it.
/// Andy Shauf - The Neon Skyline
Another beautifully downcast concept album from our neighbor to the North.
/// Nana Adjoa - Big Dreaming Ants
Nana makes one tight package with this fully formed debut - thoughtful lyrics, catchy melodies, engaging sounds, and rich production from top to bottom.
This record felt like a comforting quarantine escape with an old friend.
/// Disq - Collector
This album was almost pure 90's nostalgia for me, filled with fun and fuzzy rock'n roll messes.
/// Land of Talk - Indistinct Conversations
This is a much gentler & ambient version of Land of Talk that continually soothed my mind in a troubled 2020.
/// Buscabulla - Regresa
Rhythmically infectious vibes via Puerto Rico that I kept returning to throughout the year.
/// El Ten Eleven - Tautology II
This duo has been crafting a signature sound for nearly 2 decades and the album sitting at the center of their Tautology trilogy feels like grandiose culmination of those efforts.
/// Sault - Untitled (Black Is)
Both albums by Sault this year felt like sweeping music history lessons that simulatniously educate us in the contemporary Black Lives Matter movement.
